Last month, I was back in London filming an episode of Planet Food, about one of my favorite guilty pleasure’s – Coffee. Learning about the fascinating history behind coffee was rivaled only by the chance to drink the satisfying stuff up to 5 times a day. (Inevitably, after a week of abundant tastings and takes, I became a devoted addict.)
I was pleased (and not surprised) to see that Londoner’s are as passionate and serious about their coffee as much as they are about their tea. I discovered some incredible Cafe’s along the way – where coffee is roasted on site, and espresso’s are made with utmost dedication. Here’s my Top 5 favorite Cafe’s in London right now:
Ozone Coffee Roasters
Sip on single origin coffees while watching and smelling that addictive scent of coffee as the beans get freshly roasted below you, downstairs. They also offer a great breakfast and lunch dishes to accompany your brew. Great scene.

Workshop Coffee Co.
This exposed brick cafe in Clerkenwell is always buzzing. That’s because the coffee is sourced, roasted and served with focus and simplicity. The beans are also roasted onsite (at the back of the cafe) and they serve breakfast/brunch and a delicious all-day menu.

A passionate, quality-focused coffee brand, Nude Espresso supplies cafes with their beans all over the city. They also have their own cafes in Soho and Shoreditch, not only providing great coffee but also brilliant baked goods, including their staple portuguese egg custard tarts…which are delicious!

The knowledgable baristas at this spacious and playful cafe on Leather Lane in Clerkenwell, will enthusiastically recommend your brewing options – whether it be pourer, AeroPress, syphon or whatever else is available – and will grind and brew before your eyes. An excellent and relaxed spot to learn about coffee! (Aspiring baristas can also take lessons there).

Serving Square Mile Coffee (my favorite! I went to their impressive roastery in East London for tastings – and had a fantastic experience), Kaffeine has a reputation for a welcoming and warm atmosphere, with beautiful decor combined with excellent coffee. They have 2 cafe’s – one in Eastcastle, and my favorite in Fitzrovia. Order a Flat White and fone of their irresistible freshly baked treats.

Other London Cafe’s I adore and worth the visit:
Fernandez & Wells (Sommerset House), Origin Coffee (Shoreditch), Climpson & Sons (Hackney, Broadway Market), Monmouth Coffee, (I like the one in Covent Garden), Bar Termini (for true Italian $1 espresso’s!), Artisan Coffee, The Monocle Cafe, Look Mum No Hands (cool cycling concept and coffee store), Grind & Co.
