Mastering the elements of what to wear when traveling has become somewhat of an art for me – perfected throughout my years of extensive escapades for work and leisure. Looking and feeling your best from takeoff to touchdown requires a balance of comfort and practicality without forgoing your sartorial style. I’ve rounded up the components that make for a smart and saavy travel outfit, this particular one is skewed for a chic city destination like, London, Paris or Rome.
My basics start with a soft and loose tee, I particularly love the comfort and relaxed style of Everlane and Madewell t-shirts. Stretchy and comfortable jeans in a dark color (for hiding any turbulence-induced drink spills) are a must. These Rag & Bone pair are my go-to. I stick with a balance of neutral colors when building my travel outfit – a mix of white, grey, navy, camel and black. The right layering is essential. I am forever getting cold then hot then cold again in the airport and on the plane. A soft cashmere sweater is perfect along with a soft-to-the-touch scarf. A casual but structured blazer pulls together the outfit (and is your secret ingredient for getting bumped up to first). I absolutely adore this camel colored J.Crew one which will last you a lifetime. Long security lines and lengthy walks to the gate call for slip on sneakers, like these blush Joie Kidmore sneakers, but if you fancy swapping the sneaks for a more polished look then my first choice are a pair of modern loafers like these gorgeous Nicholas Kirkwood’s. Keep all your personal essentials secure and organized in a classic-chic handbag like The Row Top-handle satchel. Exude an uncomplicated appearance with simple jewelry and disembark in style with a pair of large 70’s style shades.
