A lack of sleep, stress, consecutive days of heavy makeup, or a few too many bad treats can often leave my skin looking tired, dry, blotchy and dull. On unavoidable days like these, I like to give myself a quick and convenient mini-facial from the comfort of my own home. I very rarely go out for facials, but I do realize (particularly as I get older) the importance of a deep treatment to rejuvenate my skin. Once a week I now do a simple 4-step midweek facial that takes just 20-30 minutes, and provides my skin with hydration, luminosity and radiance, so I look alive and fresh for the rest of the week.
1. CLEANSE: REN Rosa Centifolia 3-in-1 Cleansing Water
I always start my facial with a clean face. I usually remove makeup and the day’s grime with this gentle alcohol-free makeup remover that leaves skin purified, fresh and toned without tightness or dryness. It’s suitable for the most delicate eye area too. I apply it with my new discovery – Shesiedo Facial Cotton Pads – they are soft, smooth and silk to the touch!
If I’ve worn a lot of heavy makeup that day, I also wash my face with First Aid Beauty Face cleanser.
This is possibly the best investment you’ll make if you end up doing regular at-home facials. I usually use this spa treatment for 10 minutes, but it can deliver a continuous flow of steam for 20 minutes at a time. It simultaneously cleanses pores, exfoliates, and hydrates skin leaving it smooth and soft. By far the most effective facial device I’ve used, and an important step to get skin prepped for the peel-mask.
3. RADIANCE PEEL: Murad Intensive-C Radiance Peel
My favorite beauty discovery this year. And the essential product in this 4-step mini facial. Just to make clear this isn’t actually a peel that you peel off the face. It’s an intensive cream treatment, that you put on like a normal face mask and leave to soak into the skin for 10 minutes. If your face is very dry (like mine), you may not have much left on your skin once the 10 minutes is up! Wash off the remaining peel with warm water. The results are comparable to a professional peel. It leaves my skin remarkably smooth, and instantly brightens, evens my skintone and gives my skin a luminous glow.
I end my mini-facial with a light later of gentle rose oil, which calms the skin and gives off a smooth radiant glow. I particularly like this oil because it contains SPF 15 – very important if you are going out into the sun after doing your facial.
