Last week, I eagerly blogged about the benefits of a staycation – how a new experience in your own city could be just as rewarding as flying far away. In light of that, I put my own advice to the test and checked in at the Palihouse Hotel, in Santa Monica. Exactly 7 blocks from where I live. Too close for comfort? Not on your nelly.
The boutique Palihouse Hotel, (little sister to the much busier Palihouse in West Hollywood) is the epitome of charm. An elegant and relaxing home away from home with attentive hipster staff and eclectic interiors to drool over. Located in a quiet, residential area, (yet still extremely close to the beach, restaurants and shopping), the Mediterranean revival architecture instantly captured my eye as I entered the lush courtyard – the perfect leafy sanctuary for a thoughtful repose or a relaxing game of bowls.
Style Tip: Keep it casual in chic leather sandals.
The building may date back to 1927 but the Paligroup has revived the space to perfection. The sultry lobby/bar/dining area is an eclectic mix of broken-in leather chesterfields, velvet booths, long wooden communal tables, with accents of vintage pillows, regal paintings, classic novels, a roaring fireplace, and moose heads hanging on the walls. Old world charm mixed with contemporary cool.
The classic rooms are inviting, but for a more luxury experience stay in the one/two bedroom residences or the Penthouse – beautiful, bright and eclectically cool – as a boutique hotel should be.
