My love affair with Downtown LA reached its height at the beginning of 2014, when the trendy New York outpost of the Ace Hotel, settled onto South Broadway. Since then, it’s been my downtown refuge for everything from design meetings to casual al fresco rooftop cocktails, to sunday brunches in its Parisian style buzzy bistro. Not to mention, my savior on those much needed almond latte fueled days. (They serve Stumptown coffee and it’s ridiculously good)
The Rooftop is one of the prettiest you will see in LA, abundant with navajo-patterned pillows, sparkling fairy lights, rustic maple tables and chairs, a fireplace, pool, and an industrial style bar with hanging chains and leather loungers, all housed within its original spanish gothic style building. My old school friend from New York, also happens to be the bar manager, so there’s always a familiar face behind every crafted cocktail. Downtown LA just keeps getting better.
Addicted to the ethnic printed pillows on the rooftop, I decided to don my colorful high waisted aztec print shorts (which I stumbled upon in a small boutique in…..where else?…Downtown!) They are Made in Peru and never cease to make me smile. Pair with a simple white top and sandal, and summer feels like it’s finally arrived.
The luxury boutique hotel may have undergone a huge refurb in the old United Artists building but they left its gorgeous gothic style still in tact.
