Grand Central Market in Downtown LA, is a maze of bustling, ethnic food stalls, colorful fresh produce, and bar stools filled with busy labor workers, financial suits, hipsters and fashion students, all devouring the amazing cuisines on offer. Colorful, diverse and delicious, there are no lack of options to choose from; from carnitas to ceviche, to pad thai to bento boxes, there’s something for everyone at this huge, indoor culinary melting pot. It’s also a great place to buy quality and inexpensive produce, as well as mole’s, nuts, spices and teas. I would recommend going early, for breakfast or an early lunch.
Every stall in here is pretty delicious, but here are my top picks;
Press Brothers Juicery; Get a morning ‘wake me up’ with a fresh pressed, Cucumber, Apple, Arugula, Lemon, Cilantro, Parsley, Ginger, habanero Juice
Eggslut; Love this place, maybe get an Eggy breakfast sandwich, or maybe get the ‘Avo Burger’ with cheese, avocado, caramelized onions and a runny egg. Its never too early to eat the Avo Burger.
Lupita’s Seafood; Fish doesn’t come any fresher. Perch at the bar and order the incredible Ceviche’s.
Taco’s Tumbras o Tomas; I love it when they overfill your taco with ridiculous juicy pork carnitas..
Valerie; Offers cute and refined small sweet and savory breakfast, brunch and lunch’s. A lavender lemon tea cake always goes down well.
Ana Maria; More amazing Mexican food to go.
Sarita’s Pupuseria; Handmade pupusas made right in front of you. Fill them with a large option of Salvadorean fillings. And the best fried plantains I’ve ever tasted.
Las Morelianas; Carnitas estilo Michoacan. Simply amazing carnitas.
Bento Ya Japanese Cuisine; Fresh fish prepared on the grill in generous bento boxes.
DTLA Cheese; I’m loving their cheese counter, and decadent menu: Cheesy Potatoes with Manchego, romesco and idiazabal. Mmm yes please.
G&B Coffee; Downtown hipsters congregate for espressos perfected by baristas who know what they are doing.
Casa de Dulces; Decadent, mouth watering cakes and dulces
Jose’s Ice Cream Corner; Ice cream, sundaes, banana split’s, milkshakes. Yes, yes, yes!
Go shopping:
Buy gluten free flours, and exotic teas from Jones Grain Mill and inexpensive fresh fruit and veg from Torres Produce. And if you fancy going all out and cooking for your boyfriend that night, snag some rich Mexican Mole from Chiles Secos.

I lived in LA most of my 20’s. This market is absolutely awaesome, but often not in th top 5-10 things people want to do or see when in LA. Its a really fun and casual way to send a few hours and is close to Olvera Street, another LA attraction.
